Forest Retreat

A blackletter and slab hybrid drawn from early monastic manuscripts and folk art traditions, rendered with a hard-edged, chiselled quality.
About
Conceived as a meeting of blackletter and slab serif, Forest Retreat takes its cues from illuminated manuscripts and folk art found in Black Forest temples. The letterforms suggest marks made with a hard-edged quill pressed into soft paper or cut into old timber, giving the face a crude, tactile character. Best suited to display work where an archaic, handcrafted atmosphere is wanted.
Classification
The foundry explicitly describes it as a marriage of blackletter and slab, drawing on early monastic manuscripts and folk art traditions, placing it firmly in the blackletter category with a distinctive slab hybrid quality.
