Based on hand-painted signs from Birmingham's 1886 Exhibition of Local Manufacturers and Natural History, Central Avenue revives an unusually stark industrial sans that sat at odds with the ornate Victorian typography of its day. The revival resists correction, keeping the irregular character of the originals rather than rationalising them into a smooth digital form. With no lowercase, it instead offers superscripted alternates that allow for distinctive wordmark construction across its 579-glyph Latin Extended encoding.
