A geometric sans in the ITC Avant Garde Gothic lineage, running ten weights from Hairline to an Ultra so heavy its strokes overlap and letters clog.
About
Designed by Nolan Paparelli and Alberto Malossi, Burns takes the pure circles and high x-height of the Lubalin tradition and pushes it to an extreme at the heavy end, where the Ultra weight produces overlapping strokes and dense, clogged forms suited to logotype work. The family holds ten weights and includes 14 stylistic sets with graphic alternates, giving it a range that spans fine editorial use to bold display applications. Spacing and kerning were handled by Igino Marini, with mastering by Jan Charvát.
Classification
Explicitly inspired by ITC Avant Garde Gothic, Burns is built on pure geometric shapes with a high x-height and minimal tapering, placing it firmly in the geometric sans tradition.
