Zaft²
WiseType · Jacob Wise, Céline Hurka · 2021

A variable French Clarendon revival by Jacob Wise and Céline Hurka that channels 19th-century advertising type through a Wild West pastiche with contemporary variable font controls.
About
Built on the geometric foundations of its predecessor Zaft, this display slab takes its cues from the French Clarendon tradition that became synonymous with the American frontier. Compact, rigid forms are softened by rounded corners, and contextual alternatives tighten letter-fit across the family. Three distinct variable axes allow independent control over weight distribution and serif width, each available as a variable TTF alongside six static OTF files.
Classification
A bold display slab in the French Clarendon tradition, with exaggerated thick-thin contrast and heavy serifs rooted in 19th-century advertising type. Its geometric grid construction and Wild West pastiche place it firmly in the display category.
