Ballast
XYZ Type · Ben Kiel

A compressed Egyptienne with exaggerated ball terminals, originally drawn for New York magazine by Ben Kiel and still in active development.
About
Born from a commission for New York magazine, Ballast takes an Egyptienne structure and pushes it into an extra-narrow width designed for tight, dense typesetting. Ben Kiel later refined the concept for Supermajority, pushing the ball terminals further and carving out as much internal space as possible. Currently available in a single Condensed Bold, with additional weights and widths planned.
Classification
Ballast is explicitly described as an Egyptienne typeface compressed into an extra-narrow width, with exaggerated ball terminals characteristic of a display slab serif.
