Grep
XYZ Type · Ben Kiel

A screen-oriented humanist sans by Ben Kiel, derived from a serif text face and inflected by the stroke modulation of Roger Excoffon's Antique Olive in its heavier weights.
About
Ben Kiel began with a graduate-school text serif from the University of Reading, stripped away the serifs, and found that the underlying legibility logic held up well for screen interfaces. The lighter weights read cleanly in UI contexts while retaining a bookish warmth unusual in utilitarian sans faces; the heavier weights develop dramatic stroke contrast drawn from Antique Olive. Currently in early access at version 0.1, with italics and an expanded character set still to come.
Classification
Grep originated from a serif text face stripped of its serifs, retaining humanist warmth and legibility principles; heavier weights introduce stroke modulation inspired by Excoffon's Antique Olive, placing it firmly in the humanist sans tradition with display tendencies at higher weights.
