Autarchist
Zetafonts · Andrea Tartarelli, Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini · 2024

A three-subfamily display family inspired by 1970s and 80s sci-fi and horror cover typography, ranging from a clean sans to an exaggerated super serif with wild, jagged strokes.
About
Designed by Andrea Tartarelli and Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini, Autarchist draws on the cover lettering of pulp paperbacks and genre cinema, with ITC Serif Gothic cited as a starting point for the sans. The family extends across three distinct subfamilies — a sans, a flared serif and a super serif where the serifs grow angular and pronounced — each available in seven weights from Hairline to Extrabold. A variable font spanning both weight and serif intensity axes is included with the full family package, and the release won a Communication Arts Typeface Design award in 2025.
Classification
A stylised display family drawing on 1970s–80s sci-fi and horror cover typography, spanning a sans, a flared serif and an exaggerated super serif, making it firmly display-oriented despite its range of weights.
