The design draws on sixteenth-century garalde models for its controlled, legible architecture, then tempers that rigour with calligraphic influence in the tradition of Gudrun Zapf. A display subfamily, Calvino Grande, shares the same formal structure but adopts condensed proportions, sharper details and tighter metrics for headlines. The full family covers over 200 languages in Latin and Cyrillic, includes four variable fonts with weight and optical size axes, and ships with an extensive set of OpenType features.
