Evans
Zetafonts · Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini, Andrea Tartarelli · 2023

A semi-condensed old-style text family by Zetafonts, named after photographer Walker Evans and designed to maximise legibility in confined column widths.
About
Designed by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini and Andrea Tartarelli, Evans pairs a classical old-style structure with a gently transitional axis and soft calligraphic stroke endings, resulting in a face that reads comfortably at small sizes in both print and digital contexts. The family runs to eight weights with true italics in both the standard and Narrow subfamilies, totalling 33 styles plus two variable fonts covering weight and width axes. Swash alternates, oldstyle figures and an Ornaments font extend its range for editorial, interface and identity work.
Classification
The designers explicitly describe Evans as a semi-condensed old-style with a slight transitional slanted axis, combining classical old-style proportions with soft calligraphic detail and a mildly transitional stress angle.
