Garbata specimen from Zetafonts

A sans serif by Francesco Canovaro that borrows its skeleton from old-style faces like Windsor and Cooper, adding a flat-brush calligraphic quality across eight weights with matching italics.

About

Rather than following grotesque or modernist models, Garbata draws on the quirky, sloped forms of old-style typefaces and flat-brush calligraphy, producing a sans that reads warmly at text sizes and shows character at display scale. The family runs from Thin to Black with matching italics, 861 glyphs, and coverage of over 200 languages across Latin and Cyrillic scripts. A variable font is included with the full family package, and the face ships with a thorough OpenType feature set including small caps, oldstyle figures and multiple stylistic sets.

Classification

Garbata takes its skeleton from old-style serif models like Windsor and Cooper, applying a flat-brush calligraphic sensibility to produce a sans with distinctly humanist, quirky letterforms rather than the neutral geometry of grotesque or modernist traditions.
