Hagrid Arabic specimen from Zetafonts

A bilingual grotesque family that extends Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini's Hagrid into Arabic script via a Naskh model reinterpreted through brutalist proportions and dynamic inktraps.

About

Developed in close collaboration with Murad Alshawareb, the family bridges Latin and Arabic with shared structural logic: brutalist counterspaces and inktraps connect the two scripts, while dense Arabic counters fed back into a new Black weight for the Latin. The family splits into Display styles with tighter metrics and stronger contrast, and Text styles tuned for smoother reading, spanning 13 static styles plus two variable fonts covering weight and optical size axes. Coverage extends to Farsi, Urdu, Extended Latin, Cyrillic and Greek across 216 languages.

Classification

Hagrid Arabic is a grotesque sans-serif with inverted contrast, brutalist shapes and calligraphic counterspaces; its Arabic component follows a Naskh model reinterpreted through the structural tension of the Latin grotesque.
