Designed by Francesco Canovaro and Andrea Tartarelli with Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini, Klein takes Paul Renner's proportions as its starting point and departs from strict modernist purity with details drawn from humanist sans serifs, particularly Gill Sans. The family spans nine weights with matching italics, repeated across a standard display cut, a Text version with a raised x-height for small-size legibility, and a Condensed subfamily for space-constrained editorial and advertising work. Script coverage extends to Latin, Greek and Cyrillic across 218 languages, and a variable font is available in the full package.
Classification
Rooted in the geometric sans tradition via Futura, but tempered with humanist and grotesque details that soften the strict modernist geometry, bringing it closer to Gill Sans than pure Renner.
