A 50-style type system commissioned for the rebranding of Piero della Francesca's Monterchi fresco, built on classical Roman geometry with an extensive ligature palette.

About

Originating as a custom commission for the 2019 rebranding of a Renaissance fresco site, the family reworks Francesco Canovaro's Beatrix Antiqua into four subfamilies: a display serif, a text-optimised cut with larger x-height and wider spacing, a slab serif variant, and a geometric sans. All share a common classical skeleton with over 100 discretionary ligatures, small caps, and stylistic alternates across more than 1,100 glyphs covering 217 languages in Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. The range suits editorial, signage, logo and wayfinding work where a historically grounded but flexible system is needed.

Classification

A classical Roman display serif rooted in early Renaissance letterforms, reworked from Francesco Canovaro's Beatrix Antiqua with geometric construction and humanist proportions. The family extends to a text cut, a slab serif variant and a sans companion sharing the same geometric skeleton.
