Morbodoni specimen from Zetafonts

A softened reworking of the ultrafat Bodoni tradition, with rounded corners and reduced contrast for better screen rendering.

About

Designed by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini and Francesco Canovaro in 2016, Morbodoni takes the extreme weight of the fat face Bodoni genre and tempers it with rounded terminals and slightly heavier serifs. The result lowers the stroke contrast compared to a conventional ultrafat Bodoni, making it more legible at display sizes on screen. Part of the Fonticio Typeface Family, it covers 197 languages across Latin and Greek scripts.

Classification

Morbodoni is derived from the ultrafat Bodoni tradition, a display serif category characterised by extreme stroke contrast. Its rounded corners and softened serifs place it firmly in the fat face display subcategory.
