Drawn from Ludlow's Record Gothic, a 1920s derivative of Morris Fuller Benton's News Gothic, this condensed subfamily brings order to what A2-Type describe as a charmingly anomalous metal type family. The original Ludlow range accrued bold, wide, condensed and extra condensed styles piecemeal over decades, and this revival unifies those disparate cuts into a consistent seven-weight system. Part of a wider A2 Record Gothic superfamily that also includes Mono, X Condensed, Stencil and Outline variants.
Classification
A condensed grotesque revival rooted in Ludlow's Record Gothic, itself a derivative of Morris Fuller Benton's News Gothic. The condensed width and upright structure place it firmly in the American grotesque tradition.
