Merk Pix

A pixel-style typeface derived from a Dollfus-Mieg & Cie cross-stitch instruction alphabet, extended to a full character set by A2-Type.
About
The original Merk Stich specimen offered only uppercase letters intended as a guide for linen stitching, so A2-Type invented the lowercase, numerals and punctuation to complete the family. The letterforms retain the rigid, grid-based quality of their embroidery origins while functioning as a contemporary display typeface. A companion family, Merk Dot, offers the same aesthetic in three weights using dot-pattern construction.
Classification
Derived from a historical embroidery instruction alphabet, the letterforms are built on a grid of discrete marks mimicking cross-stitch or pixel patterns, placing it firmly in the display/bitmap category.
