BDot specimen from b•v-h type

A dot-based display typeface by André Baldinger, designed in 1997 and released in 2023, built on optically placed points inspired by early electric-bulb illuminated lettering.

About

Rather than placing dots on a fixed grid, Baldinger positions each point individually on an optical basis across six weights, from ExtraThin to ExtraBold. As the weight increases, the dots grow larger while their centres remain fixed, eventually merging into a solid line with indentations in the heaviest cuts. BDot shares its skeleton and proportions with the companion family BLine, allowing the two to combine freely in print and animation work.

Classification

BDot uses individually placed dots to form letterforms inspired by early electric-bulb illuminated signage, making it a display face with a clear decorative and historical reference rather than a conventional text category.
