Sempione Grotesk
CAST · Andrea Amato – Tipiblu · 2009

A Swiss-tradition grotesque by Andrea Amato with a generous x-height, seven weights with cursive counterparts, and an unusually rich set of OpenType features borrowed from serif typography.
About
Developed over a decade from 2009 to 2019, the family spans Thin to Black with matching Cursive italics that echo true italic construction rather than simply slanting the upright forms. Alongside the expected lining and oldstyle figures, tabular and proportional sets, and small capitals, the family includes ligatures, ornaments and decorative features rarely found in a grotesque. A companion family, Sempione Modern, extends the system with letterforms recalling early 20th-century sanserifs and a slanted italic style.
Classification
A Swiss-tradition grotesque with horizontal stroke terminations and near-uniform letter widths, placing it firmly in the neo-grotesque lineage, though enriched with ligatures and ornaments more typical of serif typography.
