Nouveau Grande
DDOTT · Dominik Thieme · 2017

A display-grade grotesque drawing on Art Nouveau hand-lettering traditions, with high-contrast strokes, swashes and whiplash ornaments designed for headline use.
About
Nouveau Grande is the high-contrast display companion to Nouveau Grotesque, sharing the same Art Nouveau-inflected grotesque foundation but adding pronounced stroke contrast, calligraphic swashes and ornamental forms suited to titles and branding. Twelve styles run across six weights from Light to Black, each with true italics, and the font ships with 29 OpenType features including swash alternates, ornaments, ligatures and small caps. Originally drawn as a corporate font in 2017, it was completely redrawn and expanded with this display variant.
Classification
Rooted in early Grotesque letterforms, Nouveau Grande layers Art Nouveau calligraphic details, swashes and high contrast onto a sans-serif structure, placing it firmly in the grotesque tradition with decorative display characteristics.
