ABC Gramercy
Dinamo Typefaces · Robert Janes · 2024

A 48-style contemporary serif by Robert Janes with three optical sizes, painterly flared strokes and uppercase swashes in every weight.
About
A contemporary serif by Robert Janes that balances slightly painterly, whimsical forms with sturdiness for editorial use. The system runs to 48 styles across three optical sizes, Standard, Fine and Display, each carrying eight weights from Thin to Super with matching italics and uppercase swashes covering every weight and subfamily. Where another serif might draw ball terminals, Gramercy uses flared strokes, an idea seeded by F.H. Ernst Schneidler's Amalthea (1956), the italic companion to his Schneidler-Mediaeval (1938). Variable axes let designers move from high to low contrast and from Thin to Super.
Classification
Dinamo describes Gramercy as an elegant contemporary serif balancing painterly, whimsical forms with functionality and sturdiness, initially informed by F.H. Ernst Schneidler's Amalthea (1956), the italic companion to his Schneidler-Mediaeval (1938), with flared strokes in place of ball terminals.
