National 2 Condensed specimen from Klim Type Foundry

The middle condensed width of the National 2 system, a redrawn Akzidenz-rooted grotesque for tight columns and headlines.

About

The condensed cut of National 2 by Kris Sowersby, sitting between Narrow and Compressed in the redrawn National 2 system. Sixteen styles run from Thin to Black with paired italics, with every letter remastered, refined curves and improved weight distribution. The Akzidenz-era detailing keeps the voice humble and workmanlike at small sizes, while the condensed proportions earn their place in editorial headlines, social design and wayfinding.

Classification

Klim classifies it as Modern: Lineal/Grotesque; one of three new widths in the 10-year overhaul of National, sitting between Narrow and Compressed, with details drawn from the era of Akzidenz-Grotesk.
