Letters from Sweden · Göran Söderström · 2019

A Dutch Old Style serif designed for Göteborgs-Posten, drawing on 17th-century Dutch letterforms and inflected with a Scandinavian crispness.
About
Commissioned for the rebrand of Swedish newspaper Göteborgs-Posten by design agency Brandwork, Gothia Serif takes its historical cues from the Dutch city planners who built Gothenburg in the 17th century. Letterforms reference the types of Hendrik van den Keere and Christoffel van Dijck as well as the contemporary work of Gerard Unger, achieving a supple elegance with sharp, precise details. The family is primarily oriented towards display use, with a separate Gothia Serif Text cut available for body copy settings.
Classification
Gothia Serif draws directly from 17th-century Dutch typographic tradition, referencing letterforms by Hendrik van den Keere and Christoffel van Dijck, combined with contemporary influences from Gerard Unger, placing it squarely in the Dutch Old Style category.
