LL Cyan specimen from Lineto

A humanist sans drawn from Jan Tschichold's Redis-nib writing exercises, developed by Aurèle Sack into a 16-style family with three monospaced weights.

About

Rooted in a 1942 Tschichold school writing exercise that Aurèle Sack first encountered at ECAL in 2003, this family trades the geometric tendency common to Redis-nib alphabets for the softer curves of Gill and Johnston. Contrast was introduced to smooth joints and the terminals were carefully calibrated, preserving the warmth and rhythm of the handmade source. Each of the five proportional weights includes three sets of framed numerals and uppercase alphabets, and the three monospaced weights sit on the wider end of the genre with a raw, technical character.

Classification

Derived from Jan Tschichold's Redis-nib writing exercises, LL Cyan sits within the humanist sans tradition, drawing closer to Gill and Johnston than geometric models, with introduced contrast and rounded terminals reinforcing its warmth.
