LL Ivory
Lineto · Aurèle Sack · 2016

A geometric-grid serif by Aurèle Sack, rooted in 19th-century American wood type and refined across text, display and mono subfamilies for editorial and identity use.
About
Developed initially as a custom titling face for Vogue Hommes Paris in 2016, LL Ivory extended into a full family through an unusual reverse process: the text proportions were derived first, then the display cuts opened outward. Sack's strict grid methodology keeps the letterforms surgically precise despite their expressive, extended proportions, with contrast reduced from the historical sources to give the text cuts grip at small sizes. The three monospaced cuts add a functional dimension unusual in a serif family of this character.
Classification
LL Ivory derives from 19th-century American wood type and poster fonts, reinterpreted with reduced contrast, pronounced serifs and strict geometric construction. The family spans display, text and mono subfamilies, with the display cuts retaining the extended proportions and expressive character of the historical sources.
