LL Unica77 specimen from Lineto

The only authorised digital revival of Haas Unica, re-mastered by original Team'77 member Christian Mengelt from the group's own drawings.

About

Haas Unica (1980) was itself born out of a synthesis of Neue Haas Grotesk, Helvetica, Univers and Akzidenz Grotesk Buch, produced by André Gürtler, Christian Mengelt and Erich Gschwind as the definitive Swiss modernist grotesque. It vanished with Haas Type Foundry in the late 1980s, and Lineto's authorised revival restores the original spacing and drawing intent that an earlier unauthorised PostScript copy had compromised. The family spans seven weights from Thin to ExtraBlack with italics throughout, full Latin, Cyrillic and Greek coverage, and a companion monospaced subfamily.

Classification

Descended from a thorough analysis of Neue Haas Grotesk, Helvetica, Univers and Akzidenz Grotesk Buch, Unica77 sits squarely in the Swiss modernist grotesque tradition, aiming for maximum neutrality and formal refinement.
