New Spirit Compressed specimen from Newlyn

A compressed cut of Newlyn's Windsor revival, working across five weights with matching italics as part of a broad six-subfamily family.

About

Based on Windsor, released by Stephenson, Blake & Co. in 1905, New Spirit reworks the original across a full range of weights and widths that the source material never had. The Compressed subfamily runs from Light to Bold with italics, sitting alongside standard, Condensed and Italic cuts. Newlyn frame the design as Arcadian, drawing on the organic and pre-industrial warmth of the original while grounding it in a system usable for contemporary editorial and identity work.

Classification

A revival of Windsor (1905), which blends oldstyle serif characteristics with organic, Arts and Crafts sensibility. Newlyn describe it as Arcadian, with nods to conservative Oldstyle serif forms alongside a handmade, pre-industrial quality.
