A Gothic specimen from Radim Pesko

A two-weight grotesque with italics, distinguished by a companion display set that reverses the ink-trap principle to add decorative dents at large sizes.

About

Drawn between 2014 and 2019, A Gothic covers Latin, Cyrillic and Greek in two weights with matching italics. The companion AA Gothic inverts the ink-trap concept, removing material at junctions to create visible notches intended for titles, headings and inscriptions rather than small text. The result is a family with a disciplined text face and a display variant with an immediately recognisable quirk, used on headlines for Best of The Atlantic.

Classification

A Gothic is a grotesque sans-serif drawn in two weights with italics; the companion AA Gothic introduces reversed ink traps as a display feature, placing the family firmly in the grotesque tradition with a distinctive structural twist.
