Mayson specimen from Zetafonts

A humanist sans by Francesco Canovaro that takes Arabic flat-nib calligraphy as a structural reference for its Latin letterforms, resulting in sharp nib angles and fluid, open shapes across seven weights.

About

Designed as an experiment in cross-script calligraphic influence, Mayson adapts elements of Arabic script tradition, particularly sharp nib-rotation angles and fluid stroke rhythm, into a monolinear Latin design. The family spans seven weights from Thin to Extrabold, each with a matching italic, plus two variable font axes and a companion Arabic subfamily. Its 916 glyphs cover Latin, Greek and Cyrillic across 214 languages, with OpenType features including oldstyle figures, stylistic sets and fractions.

Classification

Monolinear, low-contrast strokes with open humanist shapes drawn from both Latin calligraphic tradition and Arabic flat-nib calligraphy, placing it firmly in the humanist sans-serif category.
