A2 Standard Sans
A2-Type · 2017

A sans-serif drawn as part of a bespoke 58-font system commissioned by the Evening Standard for their 2017–18 redesign.
About
Designed by A2-Type for the Evening Standard's 2017–18 redesign, this sans sits within a larger type system that also includes serif text, display and splash cuts. Seven weights run from Thin to Heavy, each with an italic, and the family extends into Condensed and Extra Condensed widths suited to the tight columns of tabloid newspaper layout. The commission context gives it a practical editorial grounding rather than a purely expressive character.
Classification
A workhorse sans-serif designed for newspaper use, spanning seven weights with condensed companions, consistent with a grotesque or realist sans classification suited to high-volume editorial contexts.
