A2 Standard Sans X Condensed
A2-Type · 2017

The extra-condensed cut of A2-Type's bespoke type system for the Evening Standard, built for tight headline setting in tabloid newspaper format.
About
Commissioned as part of the Evening Standard's 2017–18 redesign, this extra-condensed sans runs seven weights from Thin to Heavy and sits at the compressed end of a 58-font editorial system. The X Condensed cut is built for maximum headline density in a tabloid grid, where extreme width compression allows longer counts without sacrificing size. Its siblings span serif text, display, standard and condensed sans, plus a dedicated splash font for front pages.
Classification
An extra-condensed sans-serif designed for newspaper use, part of a bespoke editorial type system. Its extreme width compression and range of weights place it firmly in the grotesque tradition adapted for high-density headline and display work.
