A2 Standard Display
A2-Type · 2017

The display serif component of a 58-font bespoke system commissioned for the Evening Standard's 2017–18 redesign, running from Light to Black with matching italics.
About
Part of a large custom type system built by A2-Type for the Evening Standard, London's free daily tabloid distributed in 850,000 copies. The Display subfamily covers six weights from Light to Black, each with a matching italic, optimised for headline and splash use at large sizes. It sits alongside dedicated text, sans, condensed, extra-condensed and front-page splash subfamilies, all drawn as an interconnected system of 58 fonts.
Classification
The Display subfamily sits within a broader newspaper type system; its high contrast and range from Light to Black place it in the transitional or modern serif tradition suited to large headline setting.
