WEA Display
A2-Type · 2021

A display serif drawn for Weekendavisen, the Danish weekly broadsheet, as part of a type system that won the World's Best Designed Newspaper award twice.
About
Commissioned by Weekendavisen and rooted in the paper's lineage back to Berlingske Tidende (1749), WEA Display provides thirteen styles from Light to Black with matching italics for headline work. It forms part of a broader system alongside WEA Text, WEA Hairline, WEA Sans, WEA Sans Condensed and WEA Sans X Condensed, built for both print and screen. The system received the Tokyo TDC Award in 2021 and the redesign it underpins was named World's Best Designed Newspaper by the Society for News Design in both 2021 and 2026.
Classification
WEA Display is a high-contrast display serif designed for large-size editorial use in a newspaper context, optimised for headlines and prominent typesetting rather than continuous text.
