LL Champion specimen from Lineto

A rigorously systematised take on American varsity slab lettering, designed by Weichi He with no curves and a duplexed fixed box width across three weights and two widths.

About

Weichi He applied a research-led, body-typeface methodology to the historically improvised tradition of US sports jersey lettering, producing a family of nine styles that strips the genre of every curve while retaining its blunt, block-like appeal. The duplexed structure keeps text reflow-free when switching weights, an unusual feature for display type that also reinforces the mechanical logic of the letterforms. A Carved variant adds a three-dimensional quality, and LL Champion Sans extends the family with a Shadow version suitable for layered colour work.

Classification

A monolinear, angular slab serif with no curves, explicitly in the tradition of American varsity wood type and sports jersey lettering. The slab category fits given the prominent, block-like serifs; the geometric subcategory reflects its strictly mechanical, geometry-driven construction.
