LL Champion Cond specimen from Lineto

A rigorously systematised take on American varsity slab lettering, designed by Weichi He with no curves and a duplexed fixed box width across three weights.

About

Drawing from turn-of-the-century wood type and US sports jersey lettering, Weichi He applied an R&D process more typical of refined text typefaces to a genre usually defined by DIY improvisation. Every letterform is strictly rectilinear with no curves, and the three weights within each width are duplexed, sharing a fixed box width to prevent text reflow and reinforce the mechanical logic of the construction. The family extends to LL Champion Sans and layerable Carved and Shadow variants, with a tight set of historical alternates for additional character.

Classification

LL Champion is explicitly described as an angular slab serif in the varsity tradition, with strictly rectilinear construction and no curves throughout the glyph set. The condensed subfamily shares the same monolinear, mechanically constructed character as the full family.
