ION A
Setup Type · Ondrej Jób · 2010

A modular, LCD-inspired display typeface by Ondrej Jób, built on a 7-segment display matrix in 11 styles from Thin to an ultra-heavy U3.
About
Constructed on the grid of a classic 7-segment LCD display, ION A has no stroke contrast, a compressed width and a large x-height across ten weights plus a special Cells style containing filled and outlined containers for layered compositions. The family covers over 100 languages via Basic Latin and Extended Latin, with 435 glyphs including tabular lining figures, superscripts, subscripts and a slashed zero. It is the condensed member of the ION collection, sitting alongside the normal-width ION B and wide ION C.
Classification
ION A is explicitly LCD-inspired, built on a 7-segment display matrix with no stroke contrast and a compressed, modular construction. Its segmented, geometric structure places it firmly in the display/experimental category rather than any conventional sans or serif classification.
