Part of the Gustella superfamily by Thomas Thiemich, Boxed is one of four stylistic variants — alongside Solid, Stripes and Inline — all sharing identical metrics so they can be set independently or overprinted. The design draws on a lineage running from nineteenth-century Western poster types through 1970s psychedelic lettering, pushing reverse contrast to a contemporary extreme with digital precision. Ten stylistic sets, comprehensive figure variants, fractions and case-sensitive punctuation extend its utility well beyond headline use.
