Ivar Display
Letters from Sweden · Göran Söderström · 2017

A transitional serif by Göran Söderström in four optical sizes, drawing on Times and the sturdy mid-20th century text faces that preceded it.
About
Designed by Göran Söderström and released in 2017, Ivar takes its cues from Times and the dependable text faces of the mid-1900s, themselves rooted in classical designs from the 16th and 17th centuries. The family spans four optical sizes — Text, Headline, Display and the high-contrast Fine, added in 2020 — each with four weights and matching italics, giving 24 fonts in the core range. A condensed variant and related designs Ivar Nostalgi and Ivar Soft extend the broader Ivar system.
Classification
Ivar is explicitly influenced by Times and the dependable text faces of the mid-1900s, which in turn draw on 16th and 17th century classical designs, placing it firmly in the transitional serif tradition. The high-contrast Display optical size reinforces this classification.
