Ivar Text specimen from Letters from Sweden

A Times-influenced text serif by Göran Söderström, released across four optical sizes with four weights and matching italics in each.

About

Drawn over three years as a companion to Letters from Sweden's Siri, Ivar ultimately went its own way, retaining only shared terminal shapes. The design draws on mid-20th-century text faces rooted in 16th and 17th century models, with Times as a key reference point for its sturdy construction and grace. The family spans Text, Headline, Display and the high-contrast Fine optical sizes, each offering four weights with italics, totalling 24 fonts across the core three and more with Fine.

Classification

Ivar is described as strongly influenced by Times and the dependable text faces of the mid-1900s, themselves rooted in 16th and 17th century classics — placing it firmly in the transitional serif tradition with a contemporary optical-size structure.
