Ny. Serif Headline specimen from A2-Type

A high-contrast editorial serif drawn for the 2015 redesign of The New York Times Magazine, rooted in Stephenson Blake's Mazarin with sharpness borrowed from Gothic Blackletter.

About

Designed by Henrik Kubel, this headline cut of the Ny. family draws on Stephenson Blake's Garamond-like Mazarin and the contrast and sharpness of the New York Times Magazine's own Gothic Blackletter logotype. Seven weights from Light to Black, each with a matching italic, give it range across scales while its high contrast and editorial origins keep it firmly in large-size magazine and newspaper contexts. The name 'Ny' nods to New York as the typeface's first home, and to 'New' in Danish, Kubel's mother tongue.

Classification

Rooted in Stephenson Blake's Mazarin and Garamond-like references, with sharpness and contrast drawn from Gothic Blackletter traditions; optimised explicitly for headline use at display sizes.
