Ivar Display Condensed
Letters from Sweden · Göran Söderström · 2019

A condensed display serif by Göran Söderström, commissioned for Swedish architecture magazine Arkitektur and rooted in the Times-influenced tradition of mid-century text faces.
About
Originally commissioned by Malmsten Hellberg for the Swedish magazine Arkitektur, this condensed companion to Ivar Display draws on the grace and construction of Times and the dependable text faces of the mid-1900s. Six weights run from Light to Black, giving editorial designers a tight, high-contrast option suited to headlines and feature typography. Part of a broad Ivar family that spans text, headline, fine and soft variants, all sharing only the shapes of their terminals.
Classification
Described as strongly influenced by Times and the dependable text faces of the mid-1900s, with roots in 16th and 17th century classical designs; the condensed display cut places it firmly in the transitional serif tradition adapted for headline use.
