Drawn for the daily print and digital editions of The Independent, the Text cut shares proportions and underlying structure with its siblings across the wider Independent family, which spans headline, sans, condensed, slab and stencil variants. Five weights run from Light to Black, each with a matching italic, giving editors a full range for body text, standfirsts and pull quotes. The family received a D&AD Yellow Pencil in 2014 and the Typeface Design prize at the Tokyo Type Directors Club awards in 2015.
Classification
Designed specifically for newspaper body text in both print and digital, with proportions and structure calibrated for demanding reading conditions at small sizes. The Text cut sits within a broader family that includes Headline, Sans, Slab and Condensed variants.
